Fo-Ti (Polygonum multiflorum), also called Ho Shou Wu, is a woody, perennial plant native to China, and is still used today for its tonic properties. It appears to affect the levels of various chemicals in the body that have anti-aging properties in the human body. Traditionally, it is used to treat tuberculosis, prostatitis and constipation and to ''fortify'' muscles, tendons and bones. In addition, Fo-Ti is used to treat high cholesterol and other elevated blood lipids, insomnia and dizziness. Modern research studies indicate that it contains an alkaloid that has a rejuvenating effect on nerves, brain cells and endocrine glands.
